Toba James Oyebanji, B.URP, MSc, FNITP, RTP

Toba Oyebanji is a highly accomplished Registered Town Planner and Transportation Planner with over 20 years of professional experience. Graduating with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) as the second-best in his class in 2001 from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, he proceeded to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for his M.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning, achieving a notable CGPA of 4.07 and delivering the best dissertation in his set.

Throughout his career, Toba has focused on environmental and transportation, urban and regional planning, housing, and project management. His work includes leading roles in major projects such as:

  • Preparation of the Ore Development Plan for Ondo State
  • National Street Naming and Addressing System for the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Abuja
  • Ife-Ilode/Iyekere Flood Prevention and Urban Renewal Plan in Osun State

His expertise further extends to projects like the Osolu Island Holiday Resort City Master Plan in Badagry, Lagos State, and numerous Environmental and Traffic Impact Assessments for UACN Property Development Company Plc, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc, Nigeria Ports Plc (formerly NPA), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Professional Experience and Achievements

  • Former General Manager at Frontline Consultants, one of Nigeria’s top town planning firms, where he successfully prepared environmental and traffic impact assessments for major projects.
  • Extensive work in collaboration with prominent consulting firms, such as Vistas Group Ltd, on Environmental Impact Assessments for Etisalat Nigeria Ltd, Fidelity Bank Plc, and Safetrust Properties Limited.
  • Consultant for the ongoing IDERA Universal Ultra-Modern Market Project along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with Spectroplan Konsult Ltd.

Contributions and Recognition

Toba is also a prolific writer, contributing to national conversations on urban and environmental planning issues in The Guardian newspaper. His articles cover topics like energy management, environmental sustainability, and transportation challenges.

He has completed formal training in both Basic and Advanced Management at the Centre for Management Development, Lagos, and is a certified Management Trainer. Toba’s commitment to continuous professional development is reflected in his participation in over 20 workshops and conferences at local and international levels, focusing on land use planning, disaster risk management, and quality management.

In addition, he has served in leadership roles within the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) and is an active member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP). His dedication to service extends to the Federal Road Safety Commission Special Marshal and Partners (FRSC/SMP), where he has earned multiple awards for his contributions.
